Below is a Letter to the Editor that was published in the Star Democrat on Friday, August 8, 2008. Our campaign does not endorse everything written in Letters to the Editor that express support for Andy, but we appreciate people letting their opinions be heard by writing to their local papers. Letter to the Editor
Dr. Harris is the man, not Kratovil
Published: Friday, August 8, 2008 4:47 AM CDT Your coverage of the candidates in the First Congressional District betrays your bias. The glowing first page articles featuring Mr. Kratovil, complete with color photos and glowing quotes from the fawning participants, contrast with your almost non-existing coverage of Dr. Andy Harris.
I can see why you've retained the word Democrat In The Star Democrat. You attempt to portray Mr. Kratovil as a moderate who will represent the Eastern Shore and its values. On the contrary, I see him as a transplant from Prince George's County who is just another pawn for Gov. O'Malley's ambitions. The one thing I'm absolutely sure he'll do is to vote for Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House.
Andy Harris is a principled conservative who does share Eastern Shore values. He is beholden to no man. The one thing I'm absolutely sure he won't do is to vote for Pelosi for speaker.
What you put in your editorials and on the editorial page is your call. However, as the only game in town, you have an obligation to present the news in a balanced, fair, objective manner. Among other things, that means not just merely quoting the partisan ranting of some guest at a fund raiser as if it were factual.
