Ocean Pines - State Senator Andy Harris attended the Memorial Day services in Ocean Pines today.  Harris joined hundreds of others in a moving ceremony honoring those individuals who have given their lives in service to the United States. Andy Harris has a personal connection to the military. Andy Harris is currently a Commander in the United States Naval Reserves Medical Corps. Andy was recalled to active duty at Bethesda Naval Hospital during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm where he cared for the injured from that conflict.

Harris released the following statement:

“I was proud to be in the company today of so many great men and women who have served in our military, to honor the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice of service to our country. Our nation owes a great debt of gratitude to those individuals. We must honor their sacrifice by continuing to be the beacon of hope and the defender of liberty around the world.

“Our nation has a moral obligation to care for the men and women who were willing to sacrifice their lives in defense of our great nation. I am firmly committed to expanding veterans benefits and ensuring veterans receive the highest quality healthcare our nation can provide.””
