Voters Deserve Answers on Kratovil's Record
Declining to prosecute a sex offender and taking donations from criminal defense attorneys
Annapolis - In numerous television advertisements run by the Kratovil campaign, Frank Kratovil claims he is a "Tough Prosecutor." Kratovil's actions as a prosecutor paint a different story.
In March of 2007, Frank Kratovil declined to prosecute Robert Wayne Dwyer on 15 of 17 counts relating to child sexual offenses. Faced with the possibility of a lifetime in jail, Dwyer is now free in the community. (Source: Case No. 0M00014525)
In October 2007, Lawyer Richard M. Karceski became the official representation of Donna Ann Jones who was charged with 14 counts of burglary. Richard Karceski donated to Kratovil's campaign on 12/4/2007. In February 2008, the Queen Anne's County State's Attorneys office dropped 12 of the counts against Donna Ann Jones resulting in her getting a slap on the wrist. Since that time, Richard Karceski has donated again to the Kratovil campaign and Donna Ann Jones has violated her parole. (Source: Case No. 17K07006775, Karceski donation on 12/4/2008 - FEC Reports)
Kratovil has taken over $100,000 from criminal defense attorneys, many of whom have cases against him in Queen Anne's County. These criminal defense attorneys represent vile criminals.
Harris Campaign Manager Chris Meekins released the following statement:
"If we can't trust Kratovil to full enforce our laws, how can we trust him to make them? These actions by Frank Kratovil are extremely disturbing. Voters deserve to know why Frank Kratovil declined to prosecute a child predator on 15 counts. Voters deserve to know why Frank Kratovil has taken thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from criminal defense attorneys with cases in Queen Anne's County. Voters deserve answers."
